Iowa Farm Bureau spokeswoman Laurie Johns frequently writes articles about agriculture for the Bureau’s website, but when she took on the subject of Katie Couric‘s recent series about antibiotic resistance in animals that aired a week ago on CBS-TV, Johns has a special perspective.
Then known as Laurie Groves, Johns did several different anchor stints for WHO-TV in Des Moines beginning in the late 1980s through 2004.
“Clearly, just saying something doesn’t make it so,” Johns wrote this week in reference to Couric’s two-part series, which worked over the much-speculated issue of widespread use of antibiotics on farm animals and the possible impact on human health should those animals develop resistances. More…
