On Friday morning, disgraced former CNN anchor Rick Sanchez appeared on ABC’s “Good Morning America” and apologized for his “careless” comments on a Sirius radio show last week. “I screwed up,” Sanchez told “GMA” host George Stephanopoulos.

Sanchez’s interview with Stephanopoulos follows a formal apology that he issued on Wednesday. Sanchez used his “GMA” appearance not only to apologize for calling Stewart a “bigot” but to also highlight the lack of diversity that he sees in cable news. (Video here)

“There’s not a single Hispanic, a single Asian American, or a single African American,” Sanchez said about the current primetime scheduling on cable news networks. Sanchez admitted to Stephanopoulos that he “was feeling a little sensitive” when he criticized Stewart. As The New York Times observed, the subtext of much of the interview was that Sanchez, a Cuban-American, had a temporary primetime slot on CNN this summer before being replaced by “Parker Spitzer.”
