Budd McEntee announced on Monday that he is resigning as WAGA‘s News Director, vacating the position that he has held since 1991. McEntee has been a fixture at the Atlanta Fox-affiliate, where he started as a producer in 1982, and his announcement took many by surprise.

McEntee’s resignation occurs just weeks after WAGA’s longtime GM Gene McHugh retired after 14 years with the station. McEntee, though, has insisted that his decision had nothing to do with McHugh’s departure.

“I need some time to throttle back a bit and take care of me and my family,” he told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “It’s been a fascinating opportunity and a great ride.”
