Huntsville Stations Locked in Race to 4:30 Start

The morning television wars/soap opera are heating up and getting a little crazy.

On Aug. 22, WAAY-TV news director Keith Lowhorne announced that Channel 31 would move up its 5 a.m. newscast to 4:30. Now, one week later, both WAFF-TV Channel 48 and WHNT-TV Channel 19 have announced they are also moving their newscasts up to 4:30.

In fact, an official from one of the stations noted in e-mail: “If you’re keeping score … here are the start dates for each station’s new 4:30 a.m.: WHNT, Aug. 30; WAAY, Sept. 13; WAFF, mid-October.” So, actually, Channel 19 was beating Channel 31 to the early-morning punch. More…
