Hundreds Attend Public Memorial For Don Harman

More than 300 people gathered at Kansas City’s Union Station on Saturday to mourn Don Harman, the WDAF meteorologist who committed suicide last month.

“His death feels like a family member died, and yet I’ve never met him in person,” Kansas City resident Joseph Hostetler told the Kansas City Star. “I had to come.”

The crowd gathered around a large screen and watched videos and pictures of Harman before the ceremony, which was broadcast live on WDAF, began. Several WDAF colleagues — including anchor Mark Alford, reporter Nick Vasos and station general manager Cheryl McDonald — delivered tributes to Harman.

“We will continue to bring awareness to depression and mental illness and do what we need to do to help those who are sinking in this vast ocean,” Alford said.
