Houston Anchor Responds to Those Who Say ‘Buenos Dias’ No Bueno

Houston anchor Mayra Moreno has responded to some KTRK viewers who thought her Memorial Day weekend greeting was un-American.

On Sunday morning, Moreno greeted viewers of the Houston ABC-owned station with a “Buenos Dias” at the top of the 9 a.m. newscast.

Broadcasting & Cable says “a handful of Houston viewers” found her greeting un-American.

“Oops. Apparently this morning I upset some people after I greeted our viewers with a simple Buenos Días after my co-anchor wished everyone a Good Morning,” Moreno wrote on her Facebook page. “Some decided it was uncalled for and un American especially on Memorial Weekend when we are supposed to honor those who died serving our country. Didn’t realize that this day and age a simple two word phrase would upset some people. #WeAreAllAmerican #LetsStopTheHate #HispanicsAlsoDiedForAmerica”

Of the more than 1,200 comments on her page, most were in support of Moreno. Some of the comments were in Spanish.
