Here’s Why WTVQ Will Be Down Two AM Anchors This Summer

By Kevin Eck

WTVQ is letting people know why viewers won’t see two of its morning anchors this summer. It seems that one has been called up for active duty in the Navy Reserve, and another will undergo much needed surgery.

A couple of weeks ago we wrote about meteorologist Michael Estimé‘s vocal cords needing surgery because of a cyst.

The Lexington, Ky. ABC affiliate announced today Estimé is having surgery at Vanderbilt University. He’ll be working weekends until the surgery is performed and will be out possibly until the end of summer.

“Michael has a tremendous number of fans who we know will miss his presence while he’s away,” said news director Steven France. “In response to the outpouring of well-wishes from viewers, we have decided to follow Michael through every step of his journey to recovery.”

Doug High is leaving for 11 weeks to serve the country as a Lieutenant Commander in the US Navy Reserve where he works as a public affairs officer. He’ll be the interim PAO for the U.S. Navy War College in Newport, R.I.

High leaves today and will be back on-air Monday, September 7.

“Though we will certainly miss Doug’s presence on-air while he is away, we are immensely proud of his Naval Reserve service and applaud the dedication of all our country’s citizen soldiers,” said gm Chris Aldridge.

The station also said Matt Groves and meteorologist Eric Burke will fill-in for the two while they’re away from the morning show.
