Today Hearst announced the purchase of WPXT, the CW affiliate in Portland, Maine, from Ironwood Communications.

Hearst already owns WMTW, the ABC affiliate in the market.

“WPXT is a natural fit for our portfolio and enhances our ability to serve the community in Portland while extending our commitment in New England,” said Hearst Television President Jordan Wertlieb. “WMTW and WPXT will be a powerful combination for viewers and advertisers,” said Hearst Television president Jordan Wertlieb.

The purchase expands Hearst’s presence in the New England region. The company owns WCVB in Boston, WMUR in Manchester and two stations in the Burlington-Plattsburgh market.

The acquisition adds a sixth CW affiliate to the Hearst group.
