Chunli Zhao, the man who turned himself in for the Half Moon Bay, Calif., mass shooting that left seven people dead and one injured, told NBC Bay Area anchor Janelle Wang in an exclusive interview, he did it.
In an interview at the San Mateo County Jail in Redwood City conducted in Mandarin, Zhao told the KNTV anchor he endured years of bullying combined with long hours. He also said he believes he suffers from some sort of mental illness and wasn’t in his right mind the day of the shootings.
Wang said Zhao expressed remorse for the killings.
Zhao does not speak English. Wang said that she was not allowed to bring a camera or notepad into the jail and was only allowed to bring her driver’s license for the 15 minute interview.
Zhao faces charges for murdering four coworkers and wounding a fifth at California Terra Garden on Monday. Prosecutors say Zhao also drove to a farm where he used to work and killed three more people.
