WNYW anchor Greg Kelly’s rape case remains front page news in New York, as local newspapers continue to churn out coverage of the tabloid-ready story involving the popular morning show host, his police commissioner father, and a 20-something woman with an angry boyfriend.
On Sunday, days after allegations first emerged that Kelly raped a young woman last October, both the New York Post and the Daily News devoted their front pages to the case.
The Post reports that Kelly and his accuser engaged in “two days of foreplay” via text, exchanging explicit messages in the 48 hours between when they first met on a lower Manhattan sidewalk and when the alleged rape occurred. And the two reportedly continued to text after the night of the attack, arranging for another date.
Apparently unable to uncover details in the case as intimate as text messages, the Daily News sent a photographer to the bar where Kelly and the woman had drinks before the alleged rape occurred.
“Jeremy’s Ale House, a fixture on the East Side waterfront, is a place where cops, construction workers and Wall Street wizards wander in off the cobblestone streets to knock back some brews,” reports the Daily News, pointing out that an assortment of signed bras dangle from the bar’s ceiling.
Kelly, 43, remains on leave from WNYW.
