Green Bay Crews Descend on Dallas for Super Bowl

Green Bay news crews are descending on Dallas this week to cover the hometown Packers in the Super Bowl.

“It’s an adventure. This is what you get in the business for,” WLUK sports director Drew Smith told the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “Going to Dallas means seeing history, being part of history, and of course, documenting history.”

WLUK, a Fox-affiliate (Fox is the network home of this year’s Super Bowl), has sent a crew of 13 to Dallas and will air a nightly half-hour “Super Bowl Report” at 9:30 p.m.

ABC-affiliate WBAY is extending its newscasts by 10 minutes every night this week and will air a one-hour primetime special on Friday. The station will have 12 representatives stationed in Dallas.

CBS-affiliate WFRV has its crew split up at two locations, according to the Press-Gazette, with one in downtown Dallas and the other stationed in Arlington near the stadium.

“We have our satellite truck going down with a majority of our editing equipment, our newsroom computer system, everything we’d need.  More vehicles are loaded with lights, cameras and laptops, you name it,” said Lee Hitter, WFRV’s news director.

The Packers are expected to arrive in Dallas this afternoon.
