Gray Names New General Manager, Station Manager to Lead WBTV in Charlotte

Gray Television has named a new general manager and has created the position of station manager for WBTV, its CBS affiliate in Charlotte.

Michelle Robinson Harper (pictured left) will join Gray as gm on September 6, while Shelly Hill Crawford (right) was named station manager.

The station group said Harper is a broadcast media leader, with more than 37 years of experience in the Southeast. The native North Carolinian last worked as gm of Cox Media Group’s WHBQ in Memphis. Before that, she was corporate vp of sales for Cox Media Group in Atlanta. She’s also worked as the general sales manager at Cox’s Charlotte television stations WSOC and WAXN—and has served in management and sales with the ABC Owned Television Stations, Capitol Broadcasting, Sinclair Broadcasting, Pappas Telecasting and the Seltel National Rep Firm.

Crawford has worked at WBTV for the last 22 years in various roles, including new business development manager, research director and programming and marketing director.

She started her broadcast career at WUPW in Toledo, Ohio while attending the University of Toledo. Her career has included roles of research director and account executive at WTOL in Toledo, WCNC in Charlotte and WOIO-WUAB in Cleveland. She has served in leadership roles for the WBTV Community Advisory Board, Diversity Board and Volunteer Committee.
