Grand Rapids Sports Anchor Jokes About Returning to Station for the First Time in Months

By Stephanie Tsoflias Siegel

As anchors slowly return to newsrooms for the first time in several months, some stations are having fun with the transition.

WZZM Grand Rapids, Mich., weekend sports anchor Mike Lacet put together a cold open playing up the fact that he’s been out of the building for months. He is locked out of the building because he was using the wrong door to get in—a nod to the fact that many stations have changed their policies regarding who can enter and exit the building from specific doors.

“Hey guys, let me in,” Lacet screams into the intercom.

In the exchange with the news desk, he finds out he was using the wrong door to get in, which he didn’t realize because he’s been working from home for several months.

Tegna stations, as TVSpy has reported, are slowly letting anchors back to work in studio market by market based on coronavirus numbers.

You can watch the open and Lacet’s first intro from studio since before the pandemic hit below.
