Gia Vang Joins KNTV in San Jose as Weekend Anchor

Gia Vang has joined San Jose NBC-owned station KNTV as a weekend anchor and reporter.

Vang will co-anchor the 5, 6 and 11 on weekends alongside Terry McSweeney. She’ll also be a San Francisco-based correspondent for the station’s weeknight newscasts.

“I am delighted to welcome Gia back to Northern California and NBC Bay Area,” said Stephanie Adrouny, KNTV’s vice president of news. “Gia is a seasoned journalist who has reported on some of the biggest stories of our time—and I look forward to her collaborating with one of the industry’s best, most accomplished news teams and sharing the stories that matter most to the Bay Area’s diverse community.”

Vang, who last worked at KARE in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is the first Hmong-American news anchor in a major media market. She co-founded the Very Asian Foundation with veteran journalist Michelle Li. The Very Asian Foundation’s mission is to highlight Asian American experiences and support organizations working with the AAPI community.

She has also worked at KMPH-KFRE in Fresno, California, KPNX in Phoenix, Arizona and WDAF in Kansas City, Missouri.

Vang was born in Modesto, CA, raised in Sacramento and got her Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from Sacramento State University.
