Fox News Wins as Ratings Dip for Obama Address

A combined audience of 32 million viewers on 11 channels tuned in Tuesday night for President Obama‘s first address from the Oval Office.

As large as that audience might sound, it was down 33 percent from his first State of the Union talk on January 27, 2010. It was also down 21 percent from his prime-time address on December 1, 2009, explaining his decision to send more troops to Afghanistan, according to Nielsen Media Research.

As for the cable news wars, Fox News had the biggest audience by far Tuesday night, but ratings-challenged CNN can take some encouragement from its solid second place showing ahead of MSNBC. More…
