TVSpy has learned Jon Smith, the former photographer for Atlanta CBS affiliate WGCL who died last week, was scheduled to start a new job in Charleston, S.C. yesterday.
Cathy Hobbs, news director for ABC affiliate WCIV, told TVSpy Smith had texted her a picture of his kids playing in the ocean while his family was looking for a new place to live.
Both Smith’s wife and the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office told TVSpy the case is still under investigation.
Smith ‘s last day at WGCL was Friday, April 22. His wife says the family then went to Folly Beach, S.C. to find a new place to live, returning Wednesday to pack. He was shot Thursday morning on a trail by the Chattahoochee River and pronounced dead on Friday, April 29.
His friends and family have set up a gofundme campaign. They’re trying to reach a goal of $20,000.
