Former WDBJ Anchor to Run for Office

By Kevin Eck

Former WDBJ anchor Chris Hurst plans to run as a Democrat for a seat in the Virginia House of Delegates.

Hurst’s girlfriend Alison Parker was a reporter at the station and was murdered along with cameraman Adam Ward while the two were doing a live shot for the Roanoke CBS affiliate’s morning show in 2015.

“I’ll be able to develop some different routines that [are] not a constant reminder of some of the emotional pain that I have been having to face over the past year and a half,” Hurst told the Roanoke Times. “But I am really excited to be a part of that community and run for the House of Delegates as a Democrat for this November’s election.”

Hurst intended to stay at WDBJ until the end of February, but announced he was leaving last week.

“I am so excited to start this new journey with you,” Gurst wrote on his Facebook page. “You helped me get off the mat and now I’m ready to fight for you! Please check out my website www.hurst4delegate.com and contribute to my campaign for 12th District Delegate! I’ll let you know where I’ll be around the NRV and ways to volunteer to help– thank you all for following me to this point. The next chapter begins!”
