Former Tampa Anchor’s Daughter Killed in Christmas Eve Crash

635552767670580337-martyTampa CBS affiliate WTSP reports former anchor Marty Matthews was involved in an awful car crash on Christmas Eve that killed her daughter and left her husband critically injured. According to WTSP, Matthews’ husband, Edward Austin, was driving along I-95 in South Carolina and lost control of the family’s SUV in the rain, went off the highway and crashed into trees. The couple’s daughter, 28-year-old Emily Austin (pictured, with Matthews), died at the scene from injuries. Matthews’ husband survived the crash, but was listed in critical condition in at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Matthews, who anchored newscasts for WTSP through a fifteen-year career with the station until 2009, was uninjured.
