Former Rochester Meteorologist Jeremy Kappell Sues Station

Former WHEC meteorologist Jeremy Kappell is suing the NBC station in Rochester, N.Y. He was fired from his post earlier this year for using a racial slur during a live broadcast.

Kappell filed the lawsuit on Monday against WHEC, Hubbard Broadcasting and the station’s general manager, according to WHAM, for defamation, intentional and negative infliction of emotional distress.

The longtime meteorologist was fired on Jan. 4 after he misspoke when saying Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s name. At the time, Kappell called it a “verbal slip.” The station fired him.
