A judge has dismissed a lawsuit against WHEC by former meteorologist Jeremy Kappell, who was fired for saying a racial slur on the air.
According to the Democrat and Chronicle, the judge also dismissed Kappell’s lawsuit against Rochester and the city’s mayor, Lovely Warren, for encouraging the station to fire him.
Kappell had filed the lawsuit against WHEC in April 2019.
A judge ruled that evidence showed Kappell did make the statement on-air, although the meteorologist claims he didn’t intentionally use the slur.
The longtime meteorologist was fired in January 2019 after he uttered a racial slur when saying Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s name. At the time, Kappell called it a “verbal slip.”
He’s since tried to drum up public support to convince Rochester’s WROC to hire him.
