Former KFOR GM Jim Boyer Dies

jim-boyerFormer KFOR general manager Jim Boyer died last week after a battle with Esophageal Cancer.

“Jim Boyer was smart, funny, ironic and sardonic…and so funny,” wrote Martha Pepper of the NWT Group in an email sent to TVSpy. “It’s with great sadness that we mourn him.”

During his 48 year career in broadcasting, Boyer had worked as president and GM of the Oklahoma City NBC affiliate KFOR, WHO in Des Moines and KATU in Portland, Ore. He had also been news director at WWL in New Orleans and at KOMO in Seattle.

“By my account I’ve had a pretty good run over the years,” Boyer wrote in his 2012 retirement announcement. “I’ve lived in some wonderful cities and worked at some great television stations. And I’ve associated with some of the most talented and creative people in the business. It’s been a grand experience.”

He is survived by his wife Jan Allen, former VP and station manager at KATU in Portland, Ore. and co-founder of the NWT Group, his three children and two grandchildren.

There will be no formal funeral. Instead, Jim’s family has a different request of his friends around the country. They hope you might take time to toast him and share the many stories of “Boyerisms” with colleagues who knew him and introduce him to those who did not. We think he’d like that and in that manner, Jim’s legacy will continue.

The NWT invites donations to The Esophageal Cancer Action Network in Boyer’s memory. Click here for the organization’s website.
