Brien McElhatten is back at WPTA in Fort Wayne, Ind. This time he’s an evening anchor working alongside Melissa Long.
McElhatten came from KNXV in Phoenix where he was the host of the E.W. Scripps show The List. He last worked at the Fort Wayne ABC affiliate between 2008 and 2010 as a multimedia journalist.
“This is a really exciting opportunity because … this place has grown so much in five years,” McElhatten told Fort Wayne Business Weekly. “Now is a fantastic time to follow all of that and explain it to folks.”
Earlier this year, McElhatten learned WPTA posted the co-anchor position as a means to groom a new on-air personality for the evening shows ahead of Long’s coming retirement. Saying, “interest and opportunity coincided,” he sought the position to move back to Fort Wayne and live closer to family and friends.
Long plans to retire on Dec. 17.
