McGonagle was news director at the former FOX owned Boston station WFXT until he was replaced by KTVU news director Lee Rosenthal in the ownership swap with Cox Media. He replaces former WTTG news director Dana Hahn, who was named news director at KTVU.

“Paul’s depth of local news experience in a top market, as well as his impressive tenure with FOX made him the ideal choice,” WTTG VP & GM Patrick Paolini said in a statement. “He is the right leader to continue the momentum we have started here and take FOX 5 in an exciting, new direction.”
