Kathleen Matthews, former Washington, D.C. anchor and current wife of MSNBC host Chris Matthews, is leaving her job at Marriott international to “seek a challenging role in public service.”

The Baltimore Sun reports, Matthews has been long been rumored as a possible candidate for the House seat vacated by Rep. Chris Van Hollen, who is running for Senate.

Matthews was an anchor at WJLA for 25 years before joining Marriott as chief global communications and public affairs officer in 2006.
