Fox News continued to extend its dominance in primetime last week, securing the #2 spot in the cable network ratings behind USA. Cable news competitors MSNBC and CNN ranked far behind in positions 27 and 33, respectively.
As FNC’s primetime programs roundly beat the competition, it appears that the network’s late-night programming is beginning to give MSNBC and CNN a run for their money.
Celebrating its third anniversary last week, FNC’s “Red Eye,” which airs at 3:00am EST, scored better ratings in the A25-54 demographic than CNN’s “Campbell Brown” at 8:00pm EST and “Larry King Live” at 9:00pm EST. According to Nielsen Media Research, “Red Eye” averaged 180,000 in the demo, even beating CNN’s “AC360” which averaged 163,000 for the week. That number also put “Red Eye” just behind MSNBC’s 10:00pm EST re-airing of “Countdown with Keith Olbermann.”
