A local news pioneer died last week in Atlanta.

Gloria Lane, the first woman to anchor the news in the city for WSB-TV, passed away on July 12.

She started at the station in 1963 as an office assistant and worked her way up.

Former WSB anchor Monica Pearson said Lane was the type of person who made all the female anchors and reporters feel welcome in the workplace.

Lane was 77.
