On February 3rd, Jonathon C. Buckley was fired from his job as a master control operator at NTV, an ABC-affiliate serving south-central Nebraska. On Wednesday, Buckley was arrested outside a Wells-Fargo bank in Kearney, NE for allegedly holding hostages at gunpoint in attempt to rob the bank.
After a two and a half hour stand-off, Buckley surrendered to police officers at about 1:30pm on Wednesday. According to reports, Buckley entered the bank a few minutes before 11:00am, armed with a shotgun and a machete. No one was injured.
Vincent Barresi, general manager of NTV, told the Omaha World-Herald that the station had hired additional security after Buckley was fired. “I had gotten enough feedback that I was concerned,” Barresi said. Buckley, 22, had worked at NTV since April 2008.
Barresi told the World-Herald that he could not confirm reports that Buckley had threatened members of the NTV staff. The station released a short statement on its website about Buckley’s arrest saying that they had spoken with police about Buckley’s employment.
