“My goal was always to be first, and be best,” said Tom McDonald this past Sunday as he officially ran out the clock on a 44-year career in sports broadcasting. The NY1 sports anchor began his career in television in Asia with Armed Forces Radio and Television before getting his big break at what is now Fox-owned WNYW in New York.
McDonald went on to work at ESPN and ABC before joining NY1 in 2003. “It’s been an absolutely wonderful ride for me,” McDonald said in his final sportscast. “People always asked me, ‘What was the best thing that you ever saw?’ It was the next thing I ever saw. It was as simple as that.”
