Veteran anchor Ernie Anastos has signed a new contract with New York’s Fox-affiliate that will keep him as the station’s top anchor while also extending his reach through programs targeted for national syndication.

Anastos, who, with over 30 years of experience as an anchor, has amassed Emmy and Murrow awards as well as some YouTube-ready gaffes, is somewhat of a legend in the New York area. A recent New York Times profile described his local appeal, saying, “Cops love him. So do schoolchildren, and their parents, and nice old ladies, and waiters in Greek diners, and charity bigwigs, and late-night comedians.”

“I am delighted,” Anastos said of his new deal. “Fox is a leader in the industry and it’s wonderful to be part of this winning organization.”

In announcing the deal, Jack Abernethy, CEO Fox Television Stations, said that he was pleased to keep Anastos as the face of Fox’s flagship station. “We are proud to have Ernie as our lead anchor at Fox. His on air enthusiasm continues to be unmatched.”
