Erie Anchor’s Death Ruled a Suicide

Erie News Now anchor Emily Matson‘s death has been ruled a suicide.

The 42-year-old Matson died on Monday when she was hit by a train, according to the Erie County Coroner’s Office, which ruled the cause of death as suicide.

“It is with a very heavy heart that we have learned of the passing of our beloved Erie News Now news anchor Emily Matson,” Scott MacDowell, the news director for Erie News Now said in a statement Monday.


The Erie native joined NBC affiliate WIPU in 2004 after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in communications and media technology from La Roche University in Pittsburgh.
