University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino lashed out at the media Wednesday for reporting the “lies” by accused blackmailer Karen Cunagin Sypher and asked fans to ignore the story.
At an abruptly called news conference, an emotional and defiant Pitino criticized local television stations for “breaking” into their coverage Wednesday, the day it was announced that U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy had died, to play excerpts of Sypher’s taped interviews with police.
“That is a pretty sad commentary,” Pitino said.
During his 6 1/2-minute appearance at Uof L’s Yum! Center on Wednesday, Pitino denounced print and broadcast news outlets for “fostering” Sypher’s “behavior” by airing her allegations. More…
