WXYZ anchor Stephen Clark has a sledgehammer and he’s not afraid to use it.
While it looks like Clark is doing his best Gallagher impression by smashing a watermelon, he’s actually trying to bring attention to SMA, or spinal muscular atrophy.
The Detroit News reports, the anchor for the ABC affiliate, launched the #SMAshSMA challenge in honor of his granddaughter Scarlet, who has the disease.

Clark says in the video, “Smash something. Challenge your family and friends, colleagues and competition. Then post it on facebook twitter or instagram with the hashtag #SMAshSMA.”
