WDIV traffic reporter Kim DeGiulio let her guard down—and contracted the coronavirus because of it.
“It just took one person. I invited the virus over to my house. I drank wine with the virus,” DeGiulio said on the Detroit station this morning.
DeGiulio said she had a friend over for dinner outside. The friend didn’t have symptoms when she visited—but the next day, the woman tested positive for Covid-19.
“I got the phone call from her, and it was like really scary actually learning I had been exposed to somebody who had it. Then I just kind of knew I’m about to get it because we were together way too long,” she said. “We weren’t social distancing, we weren’t wearing masks.”
DeGiulio got sick a few days later and so did her husband.
“I’m just so grateful that I got through it and it was fairly easy for me. I think the moral of the story here is that you can think you’re doing the right thing, but it only takes one person.”
Earlier this year, DeGiulio’s co-worker—WDIV morning anchor Evrod Cassimy—got Covid-19, and had a terrible experience recovering from the virus.
