Des Moines Anchor Announces Retirement

By Kevin Eck

Mollie Cooney is signing off from Des Moines CBS affiliate KCCI on Friday, April 21.

She started her career at KCCI in 1976 before working at KNTV in San Jose three years later. She came back to KCCI in 1982 as an anchor and health reporter.

“I was lucky to find a career I have loved from day one that not only is challenging, but humbling,” said Cooney. “It has been my honor, as a reporter, to gain the trust of viewers to tell their stories and as an anchor, to earn their trust to report the news. KCCI truly is a family who cares for each other and this community and I know the proud tradition will continue!”

“Mollie has done it all here, from live reporting in the field, to anchoring breaking news like the Flood of ’93, to health reporting, to her excellent ‘In the Artist’s Studio’ reports on Sunday mornings,” said news director Dave Busiek. “She has been an important part of KCCI’s newsroom for four decades, and we’re going to miss her credibility, her contacts in the community, and her wicked sense of humor that keeps us all loose.”
