Denver Television Pioneer Passes Away

The man who created the 9Health Fair, 9Cares Colorado Shares and 9Who Care, Joe Franzgrote, passed away on Wednesday evening after a long illness. He was 75.

Franzgrote was the former president and general manager of KUSA in the 1970s, ’80s and much of the ’90s. He led the station for 30 years before retiring in 1997.

Franzgrote was a pioneer in the Denver television industry. He designed the first version of the 9 pin and the 9NEWS jacket all our reporters now wear.
