Denver Nexstar Station Staff Looking to Unionize

By Kevin Eck

Some employees of Denver Nexstar-owned stations Fox affiliate KDVR and KWGN are looking to unionize.

Our good friend over at FTVLive said several employees have declared their intention to station management.

The production, master control, and assignment desk staff are looking to join the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians – Communications Workers of America (NABET-CWA).

Yesterday, NABET-CWA filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board to represent full and part-time workers at KDVR/KWGN.

The workforce, with super-majority support, asked Byron Grandy (GM) and Nexstar Media to voluntarily recognize their union with hopes of moving forward with the support of the station.

The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) will conduct a vote to see if the union sticks or not.

On its website, NABET-CWA local 52, which represents workers at CBS-owned KCNC, which is the only unionized television station in Colorado.

We asked NABET and Nexstar about it. We’ll update when we hear back.
