Denver Anchor Says Stroke Recovery ‘Hard to Process’

By Stephanie Tsoflias Siegel

WUSA anchor Kristen Aguirre describes herself as an open book in a testimonial video she created for World Stoke Awareness Day.

Six months ago, Aguirre suffered a ischemic stroke.

“When I finally came to, it was hard to process all that,” she said when she talked about what happened on April 13.

She had to learn how to talk and walk again. During the time, she stepped away from work.

“I think the first few times after I moved home and looked in the mirror and thought to myself, I don’t hate this person. Those are the highs,” she said in a very raw discussion about her mental and physical state now.

Aguirre is in the middle of rehearsals to get back on the anchor desk later this week.
