On Labor Day, David Westin announced that he no longer wished to work for ABC. The longtime ABC News president sent out an email to staff on Monday evening saying, “I’ve always admired those few who know when it’s time to move on. This is the right time for me.”
In the email, Westin mentions that he approached Anne Sweeney and Bob Iger, of ABC’s parent company, Disney, a month ago and told them that he wanted to step down. According to The New York Times, there was long-standing friction between Westin and his bosses at Disney who had pressured him “for years to make the division more profitable, but had been unhappy with his efforts to accomplish that goal.”
Westin will stay on until the end of the year. Sweeney said that she would “be announcing a new leader for ABC News in the near future.”
