David Gregory Carves Out Path in Changing TV Landscape

If you’re ever a guest on NBC’s “Meet the Press” and moderator David Gregory starts prying into some area you would rather not discuss, try saying this:

“I’d love to help you out. I’m not going to go there.”

That was Gregory’s response when asked about his network’s costly late-night mess, which looks to send Jay Leno back to “The Tonight Show” from a failed prime-time venture and Conan O’Brien to the bank with millions in severance pay en route to another TV outlet, possibly Fox, likely before the year is out.

Although an exit agreement for O’Brien was said to be close Tuesday, his final paperwork hadn’t cleared HR as of this writing, with O’Brien’s reps reportedly looking to secure cash to support his soon-to-be-booted staffers as well. But the mere mention made Gregory squirm.
