Dave Ward Marks 50 Years of Anchoring Today

KTRK anchor Dave Ward celebrates 50 years as anchor at the Houston ABC-owned station.

“I was always the type who wanted to know what was happening,” said Ward. “I wanted to find out what was going on and tell everybody I know what I had found out. And that’s what I have done in this news business over the past fifty years. I wouldn’t take a million dollars for it. It’s been an amazing 50 years here at KTRK-TV in Houston. If I leave a legacy, I would really like it to be, ‘He really tried to do it right.’ ”

Ward started at KTRK on November 9, 1966. He was recognized by Guinness World Records and has a certificate marking the day he took the record for having “the longest career as a television news broadcaster.” The certificate goes on to say: “49 years and 218 days, achieved by Dave Ward (USA), who began working on 9 November 1966 and continues anchoring at KTRK-TV, in Houston, Texas, USA, as verified on June 2, 2016.”

“One of the things we are most proud of within the ABC Owned Station Group is the powerful connections our news teams have with their local communities,” said Rebecca Campbell, President of the ABC Owned Television Station Group and President of ABC Daytime. “Dave is a shining example of that standard, and he has become one of the nation’s most respected news anchors and an extremely valued member of the ABC 13 family.”

“We are very proud of Dave and his long tenure at our station,” said Henry Florsheim, President and General Manager of KTRK-TV. “Fifty years is a major milestone, and we want to thank him for many contributions to our station and our community.”
