Dave Strickland Joins KPRC as News Director

By Kevin Eck

Dave Strickland has been named news director for Houston NBC affiliate KPRC.

Strickland has worked as a news director in Houston before. He left Houston ABC-owned station KTRK in 2014 after returning there in 2000 as news director. He started his career at KTRK as an intern and left in 1994 to work at WAVY in Hampton Roads, Va.

“I am extremely honored to join a news team that has such an exceptional reputation and a rich history,” Strickland told Houston media blogger Mike McGuff.

He replaces Rhonda LaVelle who left to work at Scripps-owned WXYZ in Detroit.

“This is a major win to have Dave joining and leading our news team,” said KPRC vp and GM, Jerry Martin. “He is a Houstonian who knows the market, he knows the competition, and he’s a newsroom teacher who will take the foundation we’ve built the past few years at KPRC2 and raise it to a whole new level.”
