WZTV sports anchor Dan Phillips told viewers he was fired from the Nashville Fox affiliate after doing a Prince-themed sportscast in tribute to the Purple One.
Friday, on his Facebook page, he thanked the viewers who liked his tribute and said, “Unfortunately, there were apparently some viewers, as well as management at the station, who did not feel the same way. They felt I was insensitive. And as a result, I was terminated today.”
“Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to get though this thing called life,” Phillips started his tribute on April 21. “An electric word, life, but I’m here to tell you there’s something else – the NHL playoffs.”

Phillips had been with the station for more than a decade.
