Cubs Win! WLS Post Game Coverage Wins!

By Kevin Eck

Chicago ABC-owned station WLS rode the Chicago Cubs to a win last night after the Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals to advance to the National League Championship Series for the first time in 12 years.

WLS pulled in a 5.6 and a 9 share in the overall ratings. Its show starred Ron Magers, Kathy Brock and Mark Giangreco in the studio. Jim Rose, Dionne Miller, Ben Bradley, Rob Elgas, Eric Horng, Chuck Goudie were at Wrigley. Next up was NBC-owned WMAQ which had a 4.4 and a 7 share.

One odd note: CBS-owned WBBM aired NCIS and beat the other stations post-game coverage with a 7.4 compared to WLS’ 5.6. Though among Adults 25-54 WBBM got a 1.4 with NCIS and WLS got a 2.6, which probably tells you a little something about the age of NCIS viewers.

Robert Feder reports WBBM “took heat” for its coverage.

While NBC 5, ABC 7 and WGN preempted their primetime programming until 8 p.m., CBS 2 took heat for its decision not to broadcast wall-to-wall coverage immediately after the Cubs victory. Instead the station directed viewers to its live streaming online and broke in to the CBS series “NCIS” intermittently.

WMAQ beat the other stations at 10 p.m. with an 8.2 rating and a 13 share. WLS took second with a 7.6 and 12 share.

One rating point represents 34,752 households in the Chicago market.
