A private funeral service for Walter Cronkite will be held today at St. Bartholomew’s Church in Manhattan at 2:00 p.m. Rev. William McD. Tully will preside over the traditional burial service from the Book of Common Prayer. Speakers will include Andy Rooney, Mike Ashford and Bill Harbach followed by a final tribute from Cronkites son Chip.

A separate memorial is planned for Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center after Cronkite is cremated and buried at the family plot in Kansas City.

Cronkite died on Friday, July 17, at age 92. He was the anchor of the “CBS Evening News” from 1962 to 1981, and famously anchored CBS’s coverage of the 1969 moon landing. He has been remembered as “the most trusted man in America,” and praised by fellow anchormen as a pioneer in the field.
