When a man from New Jersey tells you that he wants to bury the hatchet, you might reasonably assume he wants to do so in the small of your back. Nonetheless, that hasn’t stopped Conan O’Brien from inviting Mayor Cory A. Booker of Newark to appear on “The Tonight Show” to settle their feud.
Mr. O’Brien announced on Monday’s program that Mr. Booker would appear on the show Friday to end their tongue-in-cheek dispute, one that began when Mr. O’Brien joked that the mayor’s health plan for residents consisted of “a bus ticket out of Newark.” In escalating television and YouTube appearances, Mr. Booker barred Mr. O’Brien from Newark Liberty International Airport and the state of New Jersey, while Mr. O’Brien barred Mr. Booker from the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank and the state of California, which, he said, “I have no legal authority to do.”
In a videotaped “Tonight” segment, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton asked them to put aside their differences, saying, “Let’s just chalk it up to Conan’s head injury.” More…
