Cleveland’s WEWS Cuts Morning Anchor Team

Cleveland’s WEWS did not renew the contracts of morning anchors Kimberly Gill (right) and Pete Kenworthy, TVSpy has learned.

“My contract with WEWS was set to expire August 5, 2011,” Gill told TVSpy in an email. “I was told Tuesday, July 5, 2011 that it would not be renewed.”

“Our employment relationships are private,” WEWS news director Jill Manuel told TVSpy in an email. “We do not discuss them in public.”

Gill and Kenworthy have  not been seen on the Cleveland ABC affiliate since July 5. “Good Morning Cleveland” has been anchored by Curtis Jackson since then. However, both anchors have been active on their Twitter feeds, responding to eagle-eyed Cleveland viewers who noticed the two were not in their usual morning seats.

“Kim and I have anchored our last show,” Kenworthy Tweeted on July 6. Both Kenworthy and Gill had been at WEWS since 2007.

Gill said she has no idea what her next steps will be. “While I don’t have any specific plans, this can only mean that God has something greater for me ahead,” she said. “I plan to be positive and patient until that plan is revealed.”
