Cleveland Station Puts Anchors Behind Desk Made of Ice in Bitter Cold

By Kevin Eck

Maybe WKYC in Cleveland didn’t think viewers fully understood the depth of cold blanketing the area when it had an ice desk built and had various anchors broadcast from it in the freezing weather.

While most stations were warning viewers to stay out of the cold, WKYC wrote on its website, “With temperatures hitting record lows and the cold being beyond bitter, we wanted a way to showcase just how icy cold Mother Nature can be.”

The desk was built by a local artisan and features a big thermometer in the center to show viewers just how lucky they are they don’t work in local news. During her first turn at the desk, Robin Swoboda started off by rapping a personalized version of “Ice Ice Baby.”

The station is inviting viewers to check out the creation today from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and added, “you’re welcome to take photos.”
