Chip Caray Joins WFLD’s ‘Blue October’

By Mark Joyella

Fox-owned WFLD has tapped Chip Caray for its ongoing pre and post-game programming as the Cubs prepare to take on the Cleveland Indians in the World Series.

Caray, the longtime play-by-play announcer for the Atlanta Braves on Fox Sports, served as the Cubs’ announcer following the death of his grandfather in 1998. For WFLD’s special coverage–dubbed “Blue October”–he will be joined by WFLD’s Lou Canellis and former Cub Bob Dernier.

Caray’s grandfather, the legendary Harry Caray, was the Cubs announcer from 1981 through 1997, and never saw the Cubs in the World Series. As the Chicago Tribune recalls, in 1991 Caray made the immortal prediction “sure as God made green apples, someday the Chicago Cubs are going to be in the World Series.”
