Chinese Language Channel Debuts in Bay Area

Chinese speakers throughout the Bay Area can now watch local television in their native language 24 hours a day, thanks to Sunnyvale-based KCTV Channel 1.9.

KCTV is Northern California’s first 24-hour Chinese language television station. The channel broadcasts programs produced in China and Taiwan, and plugs local news stories into the nightly Chinese news programs with its own Bay Area-based team of reporters and film crews.

On Aug. 8, KCTV launched its first original program– “Bay Area Superstar,” a singing competition similar to “American Idol,” hosted by Chinese TV veteran Li Rong. More…
