Chicago’s WMAQ Undergoing Major Brand Makeover

After a long spell of not touting its news operation, WMAQ-Channel 5 is moving to burnish its image, even as competing stations–including WGN-Channel 9 and WBBM-Channel 2–are coming on strong in the news ratings.

“WBBM is starting to aggressively market itself, and we want to remain competitive,” said Jay Wadhwa, the WMAQ brand manager orchestrating the new marketing campaign.

WMAQ’s brand makeover will play out in stages over the next several months and will eventually touch almost every aspect of the station from the website to the look of the newscasts. More…
